StepMania 3.9

If you use a 3.95 noteskin on 3.9 it will work but expect "to many files of the same type" error, Or some other errors.

And the Explosions wont be the same because 3.95 uses a texture for every judgment explosion, and 3.9 uses 1 texture diffuse in the metrics.ini for his explosions

StepMania 3.95

if you use 3.9 noteskins on 3.95 the flash arrows might be broken and some file errors may concur.

OpenITG noteskins should work fine for 3.95, so when you're looking for the ITG Noteskins for 3,95, use the OpenITG ones.

StepMania 4.0 (CVS/Alpha/Beta)

4.0 alpha noteskins will work on 4.0 CVS.

SM-SSC Noteskins will also work on 4.0 but do remember that sm-ssc has a few differences in how noteskins are made (different LengthInBeats code for example) so the Noteskin will look weird without manual intervention.

While some 4.0 alpha Noteskins work fine in 4.0 cvs, in some cases 4.0 cvs might give errors about missing textures like roll's for example.

SM5

When using 4.0 Noteskins on SM5, errors will occur. In most cases, this will crash SM5.
KB7 Noteskins only work on SM5.
The current version of SM5 is preview 2. It's still in development, so some older Noteskins for SM5 including sm-ssc might give errors or crash.
Since sm-ssc became SM5, noteskins from sm-ssc will work on SM5 for now, unless otherwise noted.
